The Invisible Man

Book design for sci-fi classic The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells. Self-published.

Challenge was to design a publication that must provide a contemporary interpretation of the tradition of the novel for a new generation of visually aware readers.

The main concept of this design is the strikethrough of the text. Inspired by photographs, which censors the eyes of an individual to conceal their identity, this book has strikes throughout whenever the narrator or the invisible man himself describes the story, or an action is taken by the invisible man. Colour of the typography differs depending on who is telling the story.

As the identity of this mysterious man is revealed, the strikes start to become lighter in weight, and eventually disappear as the story unfolds and the invisible man becomes visible towards the end of the book.
